TEF3, encoded by the TEAD4 gene, is a member of the transcriptional enhancer factor (TEF) family (TEA domain family member), including TEAD1, TEAD2, TEAD3 and TEAD4. TEAD4 is preferentially expressed in the skeletal muscle, and binds to the M-CAT regulatory element found in promoters of muscle-specific genes to direct their gene expression. TEAD4 regulates gene expression of YAP1 and WWTR1/TAZ, thus mediating cell proliferation, migration and epithelial mesenchymal transition induction.
