The PAP PEN is mainly used for immunohistochemical and fluorescent staining methods. It prevents the waste of reagents by creating a hydrophobic circle around the section. This also allows the user to use small amounts of valuable reagents on the specimen. It is chemically formulated to withstand the rehydration steps performed in alcohol, as well as the high temperatures required for denaturation during in situ hybridization. The hydrophobic barrier does not dissolve in alcohol, acetone or xylene, thus preventing contamination.
