Prostatic Acid Phosphatase (PAP), a member of the histidine acid phosphatase family, is an enzyme that is a major component of prostatic fluid and secreted by the epithelial cells of the prostate gland. PAP labels normal prostate epithelial cells, hyperplastic and cancer cells of prostate. It is helpful in identification of tumors with prostate origin.
