TMEM35 (Transmembrane protein 35), also known as TMEM35A or NACHO, is an 18 kDa endoplasmic reticulum-resident protein with four transmembrane domains that mediates the functional expression of α-7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (α7 nAChR). Related family members like TMEM35B are also studied as diagnostic biomarkers in cancers such as gliomas. TMEM35 is mostly expressed in hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) circuitry and limbic areas, including the hippocampus and amygdala of mice. TMEM35 is a 167-amino acid peptide with a putative NH2 terminal signal peptide, three hydrophobic transmembrane domains, and a nerve growth factor binding domain.
